Rainbow veggie platter with a red cabbage dip holder! First I stripped the outer leaves off of the cabbage until the head was the size I wanted. Then, using a knife & spoon, I cut a circle in the top of the cabbage & scooped out the hole with the spoon until it was the size/depth that I wanted. The dip went right in the hole, the outer leaves I stripped off went onto the platter as decor & the various colored veggies I chopped up went on top of them. It was a hit!
Here's the birthday girl's throne! I'm not into the tulle obsession, so covering her high chair in 800 layers of bright pink tulle... not my thing. Instead I bought fat quarters of fabric and cut them into strips. The white strips I hot glued to rainbow ribbon. Then I made little fabric flowers out of the other colors I bought & hot glued those onto the ribbon as well.
On the invitations I let everyone know the theme was rainbow, so they should wear their rainbow or bright colored clothing. Just in case someone forgot (or didn't have rainbow clothing... a crime!), I made some pins out of perler beads. I made the various shapes I wanted, then hot glued lapel pins onto them that you get in the jewelry section of your craft store.
This was the "grown-up" cake ( check out The Ewok's Deliciously Scrumptious Healthy Smash Cake to see what she got to have).
Grandma made this and did an amazing job!
I'm all about documenting events. I love looking through my old baby books, scrapbooks, etc and seeing what was going on during those years that I can't remember a thing (I'm referring to when I was a baby, not college). I set out paper and pens for the guests to write a note for The Ewok, that I would then store in her baby book for her to look at later in life.
And finally, the food & drink menu's. Our food menu was small so it's not like we really had any food that wasn't self-explanatory, but I always feel it's nice to let people know what's coming. They can eat more/less of something & not worry about having to pass up later dishes because they didn't realize how much food there was. With drinks, well what host likes to ramble off the list of what you've got for every guest when you ask them, "What would you like to drink?". I posted it, they read it, and let me know what they wanted.
This was everyone's favorite part. I used crepe paper to line the blinds of the patio door blinds. It looked so cool when the light was coming through the blinds!
So there it is, the highlights of The Ewok's First Birthday. What awesome ideas have you done for parties?
